Manjioca: Uma Brasilian Feminista…

“I have come to believe over and over again that what is most important to me must be spoken, made verbal and shared, even at the risk of having it bruised or misunderstood.” ~Audre Lorde~

Who would I rather have as President/Vice President?

Do I want as President an aging Washington crony who looks more frail and senile by the minute? An unimaginative “maverick” who stole his opponent’s message of change and made it his own because he can’t come up with his own original platform? A grown man who gushes everytime he steps up to the podium about how his sidekick’s husband is a snow-machine champion, instead of talking about the real issues?

Do I want as Vice-President a person who is trying to tout her “vast experience” as the Governor of one of the smallest states in terms of population for two and a half years and mayor of a town of 9,000 people for six? Do I want a Vice-President who claims “change” is coming to Washington, yet hurls vicious and nasty attacks towards her opponent instead of addressing the real issues, just like a real politico with no solid platform would do?
Do I want as Vice-President someone WHO LIES TO MY FACE about her past position on issues relevant to the campaign when the media proves time and again that she flip-flopped? (Bridge to Nowhere)
Someone who belittles her opponent’s social work as “meaningless”?

I have this sad image in my head of Barack Obama going blue in the face talking about the issues time and time again, while the drone-like masses follow Palin’s every move with awe on their faces because she’s “just-so-sassy-and-refresh

Will people in this country ever learn that they should vote based on the issues of the economy, taxes, diplomacy, national security, etc. and that religious and social issues should be irrelevant? That just because a candidate is “more like us” or “less like us” should have no impact whatsoever on how we view their qualifications?

I always found it amusing that McCain would attack Obama as being an “elitist” and “out of touch”. The guy who, after graduating from Harvard Law School with top honors, chose to volunteer as a community organizer in the South side of Chicago to help people in need, instead of pursuing the money and the glory at a top-notch law firm got accused of being an “elitist”.
On top of that, his volunteer work got denigrated and belittled by someone whose biggest achievement was a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from the University of Idaho. Are you kidding me? How is this still a race?

Even if Barack Obama was an “elitist”, who cares?! He’s not campaigning to become mayor of Wasilla, AK; he’s campaigning to become the leader of the Free World.

Only in America would a candidate for President be attacked because he has too much education.

And only in America will people vote time and again for people who completely ignore the real issues and choose instead to pound into the themes of abortion and gun-control as “central” to our well-being.
